Former vape shop owner charged

S.C. Department of Revenue (SCDOR) agents recently charged the former owner of Vapor Plus in Loris on tax-related charges.

James Weldon Faulk, 69, of Tabor City, N.C., is charged with attempting to evade sales tax due, according to warrants.

Over the course of four years, according to affidavits by an SCDOR agent, the defendant underreported sales for Vapor Plus by almost $900,000, evading more than $66,000 in sales tax.

From 2015-2018, Faulk reported sales of $120,915 when actual sales totaled $1,002,513.

As a result, Faulk evaded paying a total of $66,001 in sales tax due in South Carolina.

The defendant is charged with four counts of the willful attempt to evade taxes and was released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway Monday.

If convicted, Faulk faces fines up to $10,000 and/or up to five years in prison per charge.
